DoD Bolsters Missile and Munitions Production

The partnership between DoD and Arconic Corp. intended to strengthen national security through increased domestic manufacturing.

The Department of Defense’s Office for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy has partnered with Arconic Corporation to boost the domestic production of missiles and munitions. With a $45.5 million agreement, the goal is to increase the manufacturing of High Purity Aluminum (HPA) at Arconic’s facility in Davenport, Iowa. This effort is in response to the reduced production of HPA within the U.S. because of inexpensive foreign smelters.

The Defense Department intends to create an additional surge capacity for HPA production and address potential national security risks during times of industrial mobilization Under the Defense Production Act. The funding will be used for structure enhancements, facility modifications, and the acquiring of new equipment—including a new furnace and advanced control systems.

“The Office of Industrial Base Policy continues to support industrial sectors of strategic importance to protect American national security and deter adversarial aggression,” said Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy Laura Taylor-Kale.  “The company receiving funding is involved in a manufacturing sector identified by President Biden as critical for protecting domestic supply chains.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Assistant Secretary Taylor-Kale as she oversees the Office of Industrial Base Policy.
  • For Pentagon officials as defense manufacturing solutions are determined and implemented.
